Press Release Summary = Remembering Orange Beach - A Gathering Including a Reunion of School Bus No. 13 Riders
Press Release Body = Orange Beach, AL - November 29, 2006 - Margaret Childress Long and Michael D. Shipler, authors of the popular book, "The Best Place To Be - The Story of Orange Beach" and others will host a historical open house event on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Orange Beach Senior Activity Center (aka the Adult Activity Center). Everyone is invited to come and share their old photos of early settlers, founding families & descendants, places, boats, events, ancestral stories, family histories, and memories that make up the unique history of Orange Beach.
Discussion tables will be set up for guests to share their treasures and memories with each other and the event host's. Verbal histories and anecdotes will be recorded and photographs and documents will be scanned at the event (with the owners' permission) to preserve the memories. Much of the information gathered at this event will be used in an upcoming Photographic History of Orange Beach (with captions) to be released in mid 2007 and a future second volume of the authors' popular book, "The Best Place To Be - The Story of Orange Beach".
"There is so much information out there about the history of Orange Beach, it was impossible to include it all in our first book", says Margaret. "We want this to be an opportunity for every interested Orange Beach family to have their story told."
The event gets underway at 10:00am and runs until 6:00pm. Guests are encouraged to come by at any time and stay for as long as they like - there is no set program, just a time for the people who know and love Orange Beach to gather and chat. A special invitation goes out to the alumnae of "School Bus 13" and to the descendants of the Bear Point area of Orange Beach.
Guests are welcome to bring a "potluck dish" (but not required) - main dishes, salads, desserts, hors d'oeuvres, chips, etc. The hosts will provide coffee, beverages, and pastries. To add to the fun and excitement of the event, Door Prizes will be drawn throughout the day.
The Orange Beach Senior Activity Center is located at 26251 Canal Rd., Orange Beach, AL, next to the Orange Beach Library.
